The ultrafine mixed-crystal oxide containing primary particles in a mixed crystal state and having a BET specific surface area of 10 to 200 m2/g is manufactured by preheating a mixed gas (described as "a mixed halogenated metal gas") comprising at least two compounds having metal elements different from each other which are selected from the group consisting of chlorides, bromides, and iodides of titanium, silicon (included in the metal element in this invention), and aluminum, and an oxidizing gas independently to ≥500°C, then subjecting the same to a reaction.
