To obtain a composition for coating a ceramic-based building material just after compacting or after the first curing as an undercoating, hardly causing precipitation of efflorescence during autoclave curing, and capable of preventing plate materials from adhering to each other by using a cationic emulsion resin as a main component.
The cationic emulsion resin can be prepared by adding water to a mixture of a cationic resin having an amino group, an ammonium group or a phosphonium group, with an organic or inorganic acid, and mechanically dispersing the resin in the water by using a mixer such as a disperser and a homomixer, or by using the cationic resin having the amino group, the ammonium group or the phosphonium group and dispersing a neutral resin in the water by the same method. The cationic emulsion resin can be also prepared by carrying out an emulsion polymerization or a suspension polymerization of an α,β-ethylenically unsaturated monomer in the presence of the cationic surfactant.
