To provide a composite material and a cooking container having an antibacterial action manufactured from the composite material.

The composite material is composed of a base body made of a ground metal whose surface is at least partially applied with an enamel glaze. The enamel glaze contains a silver ion or a silver compound at a rate within 0.005-20 wt.% in terms of metallic silver to the amount of a frit being its base and the composite material is used for the cooking container having an antibacterial surface. The manufacturing method of the composite material having the antibacterial surface has steps in which (1) an enamel composition is prepared, (2) a substance containing the silver at the rate within 0.005-20 wt.% in terms of the metallic silver is mixed to the enamel composition, (3) the enamel composition is applied to at least part of the base body made of the ground metal, and (4) the enamel composition is baked at ≤ 900°C.
