A valve rod fitting hole 21 of the valve body for the butterfly valve has a first plane side wall portion 21a-1 and a second plane side wall portion 21a-2 formed in opposition to each other for contacting an outer periphery plane portion 7a of a valve rod 7 over its predetermined length in the direction of a rotating shaft and a first protruded supporting portion 21b-1 and a second protruded supporting portion 21b-2 protruded in opposition to each other between the first plane side wall portion 21a-1 and the second plane side wall portion 21a-2 for supporting an outer periphery curved portion 7b of the valve rod 7 over its predetermined length in the direction of the rotating shaft. In the first and second plane side wall portions 21a-1, 21a-2, recessed grooves 21c-1, 21c-2 are formed at their centers extending along the direction of the rotating shaft, respectively.
