Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a primer excellent in the adhesion to a substrate and adaptability to finish coating and capable of shortening the procedure of application by mixing an emulsion of copolymer particles each in the form of a multilayer structure comprising the innermost layer contg. a copolymer having epoxy groups and the outermost layer of a copolymer having carboxyl groups with an inorganic powder at a specific pigment vol. concn.
CONSTITUTION: An emulsion of copolymer particles each in the form of a multilayer structure made up either of the following three layers; (A) a layer contg. a copolymer having epoxy groups, (B) a layer of a copolymer unreactive with epoxy and carboxyl groups and (C) a layer of a copolymer having carboxyl and amide groups, or of the following two layers; the layer (A) and the layer (C), provided that the surface of the layer (A) as the central portion of each particle is covered either with the layer (B) having the surface thereof further covered with the layer (C) or directly with the layer (C), is mixed with an inorganic powder at a pigment vol. concn. of 40 to 70% to prepare the objective water-based primer.
