A relative speed in running of a pair of opposing water removing belts 30a, 30b is varied to cause the umbrella to be rotated in a reverse direction within a range of predetermined angle in a swirling state, the umbrella is press contacted with the water removing belts 30a, 30b uniformly over an entire circumference of the umbrella. Additionally, the water removing belts 30a, 30b are also press contacted with the overlapped portion, as well as the deep side of the umbrella cloth to perform entirely a uniform water removal operation for the umbrella.
