To provide a wide range liquid crystal pigment having no defects belonging to conventional technique and a method of producing the same, especially a method producing the same in an industrial scale.
This liquid crystal pigment is a liquid crystal material having at least a layer comprising a liquid crystal polymer having a helically twisted molecular structure in which the axis of the helix is oriented substantially vertical to a plane of the layer, and exhibits a circularly polarized light reflection and the bandwidth of the wavelength of the reflection of the pigment is >100 nm. This invention also relates to a method producing the pigment and methods using the pigment for an ornamental use, cosmetics and medical composition, optical use and a reflecting film or coating for crime prevention.
