Abstract:
This automated observation device is provided with the following: a light-emission/reception unit 4 that emits transmitted pulses so as to scan the entire sky and receives reflections of said transmitted pulses; a reception unit 5 that detects said reflections and generates reception signals; a signal correction unit 6 that, on the basis of said reception signals, eliminates reception signals having strengths that are less than a threshold; a cloud-layer estimation unit 7 that performs cloud-layer estimation on the basis of the reception signals after said reception signals have been processed by the signal correction unit 6; a cloud-base-altitude estimation unit 8 that estimates cloud-base altitudes, i.e. the altitude of the base of each cloud layer, from the results of the estimation performed by the cloud-layer estimation unit 7; and a cloud-cover estimation unit 9 that estimates the cloud cover from the results of the estimation performed by the cloud-layer estimation unit 7.
