Abstract:
[PROBLEMS] A bearing device for a wheel, where contradictory problems of reduction
in weight and size of the device and increase in rigidity of the device are solved
at the same time. [MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] The bearing device is of a self-
retaining type of a third generation structure and has a double- row tapered roller
bearing. The pitch circle diameter PCDi of the inner side tapered rollers (4)
of the double-row tapered rollers (3, 4) is set smaller than the pitch circle diameter
PCDo of the outer side tapered rollers (3). A mortar-shaped recess (15) is formed
in the outer side end of a hub ring (5), and the depth of the recess (15) exceeds
the bottom of the groove of an inner rolling surface (5a) of the hub ring (5), reaching
near a shaft-shaped section (8) of the hub ring (5). The wall thickness t1 on the
large diameter side of the inner rolling surface (5a) is set greater than the wall
thickness t2 of the center of the inner rolling surface (5a). The relationship
between the thickness t1 and the diameter d1 of a portion having this thickness
is set to satisfy 0.2 ≤ t1/d1 ≤ 0.3. The above construction solves
the contradictory problems of reduction in weight and size of the device and increase
in rigidity of the device.
