Provided is a brake apparatus for a generator, wherein brake operation can be executed with reliability even with an extremely simple structure, standby power is unnecessary during normal operation, and mounting and maintenance thereof can be executed easily. Thermostats (41) are installed on output lines (11) from a wind power generator (10) so that the output lines (11) can be short-circuited, the surface of the body of the wind power generator (10) is made to be the heat source the temperature of which is to be detected by the thermostats (41), a thermostat (52) is installed on output lines (24) from a rectifier (20) so that the output lines (24) can be short-circuited, a resistor (53) installed on an output line (24) is made to be the heat source the temperature of which is to be detected by the thermostat (52), a resistor (61) and a cable (62) for detouring the resistor (61) are installed on the output line (24), a thermostat (63) is installed on the cable (62) so that a circuit for detouring the resistor (61) via the cable (62) can be formed, and the resistor (61) is made to be the heat source the temperature of which is to be detected by the thermostat (63).
