Abstract:
The present invention provides an engine unit that can, without an increase in size of a generator, secure an amount of electricity generation at a high efficiency even if the rotational velocity of a crankshaft is decreased during a vehicle stoppage. The engine unit is provided with: a four-stroke engine body; a generator that outputs a voltage lower than the voltage of a battery provided to the vehicle when the crankshaft is rotating at the rotational velocity of idling rotation; an inverter provided with a plurality of switching units; and a control device. During at least a portion of the period during which the vehicle is stopped and the voltage output by the generator is lower than the battery voltage, the control device performs vector control of the plurality of switching units provided to the inverter, thereby increasing the voltage that is lower than the voltage of the battery output by the generator to a voltage higher than the voltage of the battery, and thus charging the battery.
