Abstract:
The present invention addresses the problem of providing technology capable of purging NOX in exhaust, even when the NH3 catalytic agent generation capacity for an NH3 generation has deteriorated, by way of an exhaust emission purification device for an internal combustion engine comprising a catalytic agent for generating NH3 and a catalytic agent that purges NOX in exhaust using NH3 as a reducing agent. To solve this problem, the exhaust emission purification device for an internal combustion engine according to the invention comprises, as the catalytic agent for NH3 generation, a three way catalyst and a storage reduction catalyst, wherein if the NH3 generation capability of the storage reduction catalyst has not deteriorated, NH3 is to be generated by the storage reduction catalyst by setting the air-fuel ratio for the exhaust flowing to the storage reduction catalyst to a prescribed first rich air-fuel ratio, and if NH3 generation capability of the storage reduction catalyst has deteriorated, NH3 is to be generated in the three way catalyst by setting the air-fuel ratio for the exhaust flowing to the three way catalyst to a second rich air-fuel ratio that is higher than the first-mentioned rich air-fuel ratio and lower than the stoichiometric air-fuel ratio.
