Abstract:
According to the present invention, a sensor element comprises first to third cavities that communicate successively in order from a gas introduction opening via different diffusion control portions, and a heater for applying heat such that the vicinity of the first cavity has the highest temperature, wherein: an adjustment pump cell pumps out oxygen from a gas being measured, which has been introduced into the first cavity, within a range in which H2O and CO2 contained in the gas being measured do not decompose, a first measurement pump cell pumps out oxygen from the second cavity such that all the H2O and CO2 contained in the gas being measured, introduced from the first cavity into the second cavity, is reduced, and a second measurement pump cell pumps oxygen into the third cavity to selectively oxidize H2 generated by the reduction; and the concentration of the H2O is identified from a value of a pumping-in electric current of the second measurement pump cell, and the concentration of the CO2 is identified on the basis of the identified H2O concentration and the value of a pumping-out electric current of the first measurement pump cell.
