Abstract:
This HDD glass substrate manufacturing method involves an end face polishing step in which an end surface of a glass substrate is polished using a first abrasive slurry containing at least one of zirconia and zircon, and a rough polishing step in which, continuing from the end face polishing step, both main surfaces of the glass substrate are polished using a second abrasive slurry containing cerium oxide. By means of this manufacturing method, a glass substrate can be manufactured which sags less in the end regions of both main surfaces, and on which a magnetic head can stably levitate in the end region.
