Abstract:
The purpose and problem addressed by the present invention is to provide a honeycomb structure with superior thermal shock resistance that also functions as a heater through the application of voltage in addition to being a catalyst carrier and can suppress bias in temperature distribution when voltage is applied. This honeycomb structure (100) is provided with a honeycomb structure part (4) and a pair of electrode parts (21) disposed on the side surface (5) of the honeycomb structure part (4). The electrical resistivity of the honeycomb structure part (4) is 1 - 200 Ωcm, and each of the pair of electrode parts (21) is formed in a band shape extending in the direction the honeycomb structure part (4) cells extend. In a cross-section orthogonal to the direction in which the cells extend, one of the electrode parts (21) is disposed on the opposite side of the center of the honeycomb structure part (4) from the other of the electrode parts (21). One or more slits (6) are formed in the side surface (5) of the honeycomb structure part (4), and at least one slit (6) is formed so as to not cross a straight line joining the center parts of the pair of electrode parts (21) to each other in the cross-section orthogonal to the direction in which the cells extend.
