Abstract:
The present invention reduces narrowing of a color gamut of a low gradation region in a liquid crystal panel and improves image quality thereof. To this end, a color image signal for a liquid crystal display panel in which a display image is generated by light that has passed through a rear liquid crystal cell and a front liquid crystal cell is converted to a monochrome image signal by using a predetermined coefficient. In addition, gradation value conversion is performed for the obtained monochrome image signal so as to be a signal performing gradation expression on a gradation region set as a gradation range in which a color gamut change is great when the front liquid crystal cell is driven by the color image signal, thereby generating a rear image signal that is a monochrome image signal for the rear liquid crystal cell. Further, a calculation process using the rear image signal for the color image signal is performed to generate a front image signal that is the color image signal for the front liquid crystal cell.
