This imaging assistance device includes: an acquisition unit that acquires the focal distance for an imaging device having a lens movement mechanism and an image area movement unit; a detection unit that detects an object image position for a target object image, the object image position indicating a target object within a captured image obtained by an imaging region being captured by the imaging device, the imaging region including the target object; and a control unit that increases the ratio at which the image region movement unit is applied in comparison to the lens movement mechanism when the focal distance acquired by the acquisition unit is equal to or greater than a threshold value, and increasing the ratio at which the lens movement mechanism is applied in comparison to the image region movement unit when the focal distance is less than the threshold value, thereby performing positioning control for aligning the object image position detected by the detection unit with a specified position within the captured image.
