Abstract:
Provided is an internal combustion engine with which it is possible to achieve normal combustion of a lean fuel-air mixture generated from a reformed fuel, over a wide operating range. This internal combustion engine (1) comprises: operating state detection units (101-108) which detect the operating state of the internal combustion engine (1); a fuel reforming unit (2) into which a liquid fuel containing hydrocarbons is introduced, and which generates a reformed fuel having a higher octane value than the liquid fuel introduced; reformed fuel composition regulating units (28, 73, 75) which regulate the composition of the reformed fuel generated by the fuel reforming unit (2); and a control device (100) which regulates the composition of the reformed fuel by controlling the modified fuel composition regulating units (28, 73, 75) according to the operating state detected by the operating state detection units (101-108).
