Abstract:
Provided is a light-assisted magnetic head capable of maintaining a high coupling efficiency while effectively suppressing variation thereof although being relatively easy to assemble and of low cost. By setting the mode field diameter of an optical waveguide so as to satisfy formula (1), it is possible to provide the light-assisted magnetic head which is capable of suppressing variation in coupling efficiency although being superior in ease of assembly. In the formula (1), the mode field diameter of the optical waveguide in the x direction is to be Dx (mm), and the mode field diameter of the optical waveguide in the y direction is to be Dy (mm).
