Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to provide a method for assisting the highly accurate detection of head and neck cancer. Provided is a method for assisting the detection of head and neck cancer with the use of, as an index, the amount of at least one member contained in a test sample separated from a living body, said member being selected from among miRNA having a base sequence represented by any of SEQ ID NOS: 162, 160, 145, 143, 146, 140, 141, 1-139, 142, 144, 147-159 and 161, an isoform (isomiR), a miRNA precursor, a transfer RNA fragment (tRF) or a non-coding RNA fragment (LincRNA, MiscRNA) thereof, wherein when the amount of at least one miRNA having a base sequence represented by any of SEQ ID NOS: 1-71 and 118-136, an isomiR, a miRNA precursor, a transfer RNA fragment or a non-coding RNA fragment thereof is larger than in a normal subject, or when the amount of at least one miRNA having a base sequence represented by any of SEQ ID NOS: 72-117 and 137-162, an isomiR, a miRNA precursor, a transfer RNA fragment or a non-coding RNA fragment thereof is smaller than in a normal subject, then a high probability of the occurrence of head and neck cancer is indicated.
