Title:
METHOD AND DEVICE FOR SEPARATING LOW MOLECULAR FERMENTATION PRODUCTS FROM MIXTURES OF SUBSTANCES
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO2003040380
Kind Code:
A3
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method enabling low molecular fermentation products to be removed from complex-structured higher molecular reaction mixtures. The fermentation products are separated in the following manner: the permeability capacity of said substances is utilized by means of membranes which are used for reverse osmosis and nanofiltration in order to separate them from other higher molecular substances in the fermentation medium. It is thus possible to wash out the products arising in the fermentation process from even extremely complex-structured reaction mixtures, as for instance those which are accumulated in bioreactors. The advantage and novelty of the method reside in the fact that complex upstream and downstream method steps can be dispensed with in order to obtain products arising from the fermentation process which are so pure that further refinement can be achieved in an unproblematic manner.
