Abstract:
Disclosed is a method for producing a naphthopyran compound which is characterized in that a naphthol derivative and a propargyl alcohol derivative are reacted with each other in the presence of silica which is used as an acid catalyst. By such a method, a naphthopyran compound such as 3,3-di(3-fluoro-4-methoxyphenyl)-6-morpholino-3Hnaphtho[2,1-b]pyran, which is useful as a photochromic compound, can be produced with high yield.
