Abstract:
The present invention addresses the problem of improving the moldability and durability of lumpy wood, and allowing a piece of wood to be molded by itself while maintaining the tissue or grain characteristics of the wood. Provided is a modified wood in which even the inside of a woody raw material having a maximum length of at least 10 mm is esterified, wherein the value of B/A in an IR spectrum obtained using the ATR method is at least 3.0, where A is the peak intensity of a carbonyl group in the woody raw material at 1750 cm-1, and B is the peak intensity of a carbonyl group in the modified wood at 1750 cm-1.
