The present invention provides a novel biphenyl derivative compound, an optical isomer thereof, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. The biphenyl derivative compound, an optical isomer thereof, and a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof according to the present invention can damage mitochondria and cause ATP depletion in cells which are undernourished, such as with the absence of glucose, which is the normal environment of cancer cells, to thereby induce the death of cancer cells, suppress, as an Nm23-H1/NDPK activity-enhancing substance, the metastasis and growth of tumors and show excellent effects in the suppression of tumor metastasis as well as the prevention, amelioration, and treatment of cancer.
