Abstract:
The present invention relates to: a novel Pigmentiphaga kullae KIT-003 strain having the ability to break down polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs); a composition for PAH decomposition comprising same; and a method for purifying PAH contaminants. The novel strain, Pigmentiphaga kullae KIT-003, according to the present invention can break down phenanthrene, which is a low molecular weight PAH, and fluoranthene, pyrene, and benzo[a]pyrene, which are high molecular weight PAHs, and can be usefully utilized in a composition and method for breaking down PAHs by identifying pH, temperature, and salinity conditions under which optimum decomposition activity is exhibited.
