Abstract:
The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition and to a functional health food comprising said composition for preventing and treating liver damage. More particularly, the present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating liver damage and to a food composition for preventing and treating liver damage, comprising, as an active ingredient, extracts of materials for medicine including oriental raisin tree, Puerariae radix and Dioscoreae rhizoma which exhibit superior preventative or treatment effects on liver damage. The composition of the present invention reduces the mortality rate and ALT and AST activity in the plasma of mice having APAP-induced liver damage, and may increase GSH and GSH-px content in interstitial cell homogenate, may dose-dependently decrease liver tissue necrosis and leukocyte infiltration caused by APAP, and may inhibit the activity of COX-2 and TNF-α, and therefore can be effectively used in preventing or treating liver damage.
