Abstract:
Disclosed is a photocatalyst which comprises: a member comprising an oxide of which the level of an electron band and the level of a conductive band are higher than the level of a valence band and the level of a conductive band of tungsten oxide, respectively, and which has a band gap lower than 2.8 eV; a transparent and porous member which comprises a substance capable of promoting charge transfer and which is formed on the oxide-containing member; and a porous member which comprises tungsten oxide and is formed on the surface of the transparent and porous member.  It becomes possible to provide a novel tungsten oxide photocatalyst which enables the rapid progress of electron transfer and can exhibit a high photocatalytic activity upon the irradiation with visible light, and is extremely useful as a building member, an automotive member or a member for use in the purification of air or water.
