A power transmission system consists of a charging table (100) and a power receiving device (200). The charging table (100) has: a pair of first electrodes (Eta, Etp); a signal source (SG) for generating an AC signal; and a step-up transformer (T1) for stepping up the AC signal and applying the stepped-up AC signal to the pair of first electrodes (Eta, Etp). The power receiving device (200) has: a pair of second electrodes (Era, Erp) disposed facing the respective first electrodes (Eta, Etp) and capacitively coupled thereto; a step-down transformer (T2) for stepping down the AC voltage generated between the second electrodes (Era, Erp); a rectifying and smoothing circuit (REC) for rectifying and smoothing the stepped-down AC voltage; and a load circuit (CONV) connected to the rectifying and smoothing circuit (REC). The charging table (100) is further equipped with a potential stabilizing electrode (Ets) capacitively coupled to the electrode (Erp) connected to a reference potential of the power receiving device (200). At least one of the step-up transformer (T1) and the step-down transformer (T2) is an insulating transformer. The potential stabilizing electrode (Ets) is connected through a charge control means (X) to a reference potential of the charging table (100).
