Title:
PREDICTION OF PROGNOSIS OF COLORECTAL CANCER BY EXPRESSION LEVELS OF GENE
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2019/036823
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
The present invention relates to the prediction of prognosis of colorectal cancer by expression levels of a gene, mainly involving prediction of a patient survival rate using expression levels of a plurality of genes. Colorectal cancer tumors are analyzed using a technique of detecting both single-cell transcriptome and telomere length, said technique having revealed that at least 10 types of cells, including cancer stem cells, are present in colorectal cancer tumors. Identified CSC characteristics comprise resting state and high stemness, maintenance of high WNT, TGF-β and YAP signals, low telomerase activity, and possession of relatively short telomere length. Lineage tracing analysis shows that CSCs have high plasticity and are able to transform into tumor epithelial lineage cells with high proliferative capacity, and have pluripotency. Since it is clear that EPCs and CSCs co-express some key memories, and the use of these genes can predict the prognosis of patients, it indicates that these genes can be used as markers for prediction of prognosis.
