Abstract:
In the present invention, if a real region has already been allocated to a write destination virtual region of a virtual volume, then this storage device determines whether compressed new data has a larger size than that of the already-allocated real region. If the determination result is true, then the storage device determines whether there are one or more real regions that have a size not less than the size of the compressed new data and that include a garbage region, which is a real region that serves as garbage. If the determination result is true, then the storage device selects the one or more real regions including the garbage region, allocates the selected one or more real regions to the write destination virtual region instead of the already-allocated real region, and manages the already-allocated real region as a garbage region.
