Abstract:

A torque distributor includes a friction drive mechanism that has a primary roller rotatable together with a first rotary member which is a part of a torque drive path to the primary drive wheels and a secondary roller rotatable together with a second rotary member which is a part of a torque drive path to the secondary drive wheels. The friction drive mechanism further includes a crank mechanism that rotates the secondary roller in the direction contrary to the direction of rotation of the secondary roller about an axis which is offset from the axis of rotation of the secondary roller so that the secondary roller is displaced from a position of non-frictional contact with the primary roller to a position of frictional contact with the primary roller. Although a friction drive mechanism is used, the torque distributor enables the driver to select a position of torque distribution between the drive mode and the neutral mode while securing a high precision torque distribution by preventing a moment that acts on a rotational position control system of the crank mechanism from reversing the direction of the moment.
