Abstract:

[Problem] To provide an underwater communication system capable of extending the communicable distance of radio wave communication in water or in the sea. [Solution] An underwater communication system (1) according to an embodiment is provided with: a hermetically sealed structure (2) having an outer shell (2a) of watertight structure, the hermetically sealed structure (2) being disposed under water when in use; a non-conductive transmission medium (3) one end of which is in contact with the outside of the outer shell (2a) and at least part of which is disposed under water when in use; transmission/reception means (11) for transmitting/receiving a radio wave via the one end of the transmission medium (3), the transmission/reception means (11) being accommodated inside the outer shell (2a) of the hermetically sealed structure (2); and transmission/reception means (12) for transmitting/receiving the radio wave via the other end of the transmission medium (3); the outer circumference of the transmission medium (3), excluding contact surfaces between the transmission medium (3) and the outer shell (2a), being covered with a radio-wave-leakage prevention member (4) for reflecting the radio wave.
