Abstract:
To perform capacity management so that all groups can satisfy a target protection period and secure a required free space.SOLUTION: A storage system has a storage controller, a plurality of volumes, and a pool for allocating physical storage areas to the plurality of volumes. The storage controller configures a first group that contains a first primary volume for which a first target protection period is set and a volume that stores history information about updates to the first primary volume, and a second group that contains a second primary volume for which a second target protection period is set and a volume that stores history information about updates to the second primary volume. The volumes contained in the first group and the second group use the same pool. When increasing a free space of the pool, the history information to be purged is determined so that a first protectable period and a second protectable period are the same.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
