Abstract:
To provide new topcoat formulations and new methods for making thermoplastic polyurethane covers for golf balls having a topcoat composition with many advantageous features and benefits.SOLUTION: A coating for a golf ball having a thermoplastic polyurethane cover is preferably a topcoat comprising a polyurethane composition containing an optical brightener. The topcoat composition preferably comprises a low concentration of the optical brightener. For example, the concentration of the optical brightener can be in the range of 0.01 to about 0.20 wt.%. The optical brightener provides the golf ball with desired brightness without sacrificing color stability. The finished ball with the topcoat has many advantageous physical and playing performance properties.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
