Abstract:
To provide a medicine for treating or preventing a disease which is called a mitochondrial disease and is caused by dysfunction of mitochondria, especially, a therapeutic agent or prevention agent of mitochondrial disease by searching action effects to the mitochondrial disease, the action effects leading to exploitation of novel pharmaceutical uses of a sigma 1 receptor agonist whose effect of enhancing a physiological function of the sigma 1 receptor is known.SOLUTION: There is provided a pharmaceutical composition including, as an active ingredient, a sigma 1 receptor agonist such as cutamesine, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, and being used for prevention or therapy of a mitochondrial disease such as a Leber's hereditary optic neuropathy.SELECTED DRAWING: None
