Abstract:
PURPOSE:To prevent the superconductivity from being worsened so that the current capacity is increased and the processing time required for a diffusional operation is shortened by inserting a plurality of covered composite wires into a shell within a stabilizing pipe before a diffusional heat treatment is applied to them. CONSTITUTION:An in-situ rod 20 is manufactured in such a manner that a ternary alloy of Cu-Nb-Sn or an ingot of Cu-Sn alloy, having a structure in which the dendrite of Nb is dispersed within a copper alloy matrix or a copper matrix, is drawn into wire and an Nb dendrite is stuck to it fibrously. Subsequently, the rod 20 is made thin in diameter while it is annealed intermediately so that an in-situ wire 20' is manufactured, and then, it is coated with an Sn tape 23 so that a covered composite wire 24 is manufactured. A plurality of the wires 24 are gathered together, and covered with a shell 25 consisting of Nb or Ta, and then, the shell 25 is covered with a stabilizing pipe consisting of Cu or Al so that a composite wire 28 is manufactured. The wire 28 is made thin in diameter so that a superconducting element wire 29 is manufactured, and then, a diffusional heat treatment is applied to the element wire 29 so that Sn in the tape 23 is dispersed, and further, by the interaction of an Sb fiber 21 and Sn is generated an Sb3Sn superconducting intermetallic compound.
