Title:
【発明の名称】全バナジウムレドックスフロー電池電解液の再生方法
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2994337
Kind Code:
B1
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To regenerate an electrolyte without adding thereto a large amount of electrolyte and without using a complicated regenerating device, by adding a specific amount of trivalent vanadium, the same material as one component of the electrolyte, to a positive-electrode electrolyte in an ill-balanced state of discharge. SOLUTION: Trivalent vanadium calculated by an expression, the amount of trivalent vanadium added = (the concentration of V5+ ions - the concentration of V4+ ions) × 1/2, is added to a positive-electrode electrolyte of all-vanadium redox flow battery electrolytes comprising oxidation/reduction pairs of a positive-electrode electrolyte including V5+/V4+ ions and a negative-electrode electrolyte including V2+/V3+ ions. When a complete discharge takes place, pentavalent vanadium remains at a positive electrode while tetravalent vanadium is decreased, thus causing the electrolyte to lose its balance. By adding trivalent vanadium substantially half the ill-balanced amount, a reaction of V5++V3+→2V4+ is produced with the residual pentavalent vanadium utilized, and therefore the amount of electrolyte added can be reduced. Because the same material as one component of the discharged electrolyte is used, any side reaction does not occur at all.
