Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dryer that can efficiently dry sheet-shaped recording media, such as paper, with low electric power consumption and a liquid discharge device including the dryer.SOLUTION: A dryer 100 includes: heating rollers 141-146 around which paper P carried from an external device, such as an imaging device, is wound for drying; a temperature sensor 110 for detecting a temperature of the paper P carried from the external device; a preheating carrying roller 105 disposed upstream of the heating rollers 141-146 in the carrying direction of the paper P; and a heat transfer mechanism (piping 160 and on-off valve 170) for connecting the heating rollers 141-146 or other carrying rollers 106, 107, 151-157 disposed downstream of the heating rollers with the preheating carrying roller 105. A heat transfer control section 200 controls opening/closing of the on-off valve 170 to control recovery of heat from the heating rollers or other piping rollers and application of the recovered heat to the preheating carrying roller 105.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
