Abstract:
To provide a nutrition diagnostic method for dogs and cats, the method being able to objectively and accurately diagnose nutritional condition of dogs and cats by making determination of body condition score (BCS) possible, without relying on visual inspection or palpation, easily and without having dispersion.SOLUTION: The nutrition diagnostic method for dogs and cats is diagnosis of nutritional condition of a dog or a cat by determining a BCS. A correlation formula is preliminarily calculated showing relations of body length of a plurality of dogs or cats and their standard weight which is the weight when their body fat ratio is 20%. Then, in diagnosing the nutritional condition of the dog or the cat of a diagnostic target, the body length and the present weight of the dog or the cat are measured. From the measured body length, the standard weight of the dog or the cat of the diagnostic target is calculated using the preliminarily calculated correlation formula. To any of the weight range corresponding to five or nine steps of BCS which are decided in accordance with deviation ratios from the calculated standard weight, confirmation is made if the measured present weight of the dog or the cat of the diagnostic target belongs or not. Thus, the BCS of the dog or the cat of the diagnostic target is determined.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
