Abstract:
To provide an electrolysis apparatus that comprises an anode and a cathode, having an excellent catalytic activity despite a low content of platinum group metals.SOLUTION: An anode 11 and a cathode 12, components of an electrolysis apparatus 10, are formed by at least one kind of a small amount of platinum group metals selected from various platinum group metals and an Fe-Ni permalloy. These anode and cathode electrodes are thin-plate foamed metal electrodes with micro-porous structure, in which a large number of continuous fine pores are evenly formed by defatting and sintering a fine powder mixture mold molded in a thin plate shape with a prescribed area, after uniformly mixing and dispersing a prescribed pore-forming material while uniformly mixing and dispersing a prescribed binder into the platinum group metal fine powder pulverized with the selected at least one kind of the platinum group metals and a permalloy fine powder pulverized with the Fe-Ni permalloy, and after molding the fine powder mixture obtained by mixing the binder and the pore-forming material into the fine powder so as to have the thin plate shape with the prescribed area. The platinum group metal fine powder is exposed on a permalloy molten substance defining open cells.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
