Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS451495
Kind Code:
B1
Abstract:
1,143,822. Piezo-electric switches; mercury switches. SIEMENS A.G. 18 Aug., 1966 [20 Aug., 1965], No. 37010/66. Heading H1N. On bending of a piezo-electric crystal 1 on excitation, said crystal 1 forming a dividing wall between two pressure chambers 2 containing non-conductive liquid, the equalization of liquid volume occurs through a bore 3 containing a mercury drop 4 and causes this drop 4 to break contacts 5a1, 561 and make contacts 5a, 5b. Drop 4 is held in bore 3 by a mesh 6 at each end. The ends of the bore 3 may be narrowed. In a modification, the bore 3 includes spherical enlarged ends (3a, 3b, Fig. 3), and the bore ends are closed by snap-acting discs (7a, 7b) impervious to the liquid. Equalization of volumes occurs through the snapping-over of the discs which consequently moves the drop 4. A capillary tube (8) through the crystal 1 provides for equalization of pressures. In a further modification (Fig. 4), the contacts are embedded in a ceramic moulding separate from the crystal and two crystals may provide opposite sides of a pressure chamber.
