Abstract:
1482277 Moulding soles on to footwear RO-SEARCH Inc 29 Oct 1974 [29 Oct 1973 23 Jan 1974 1 Aug 1974] 46803/74 Heading B5A [Also in Division A3] An item of footwear, e.g. a shoe is manufactured by mounting and lasting a prewelted upper 1 on a last 9 of a moulding device without a structural insole, positioning the welt 15 by means of a plate 16 and then locking the plate relative to the last 9, juxtaposing the last 9 and a sole mould cavity 25 such that the outer rim of the cavity 32 traps the edge of the welt 15 against the plate 16, and moulding, e.g. by injection or pouring, a sole 4 to the upper and to at least part of the welt 15 only the sole cavity 25 being heated. The plate 16 may hold the upper 1 on the mould 9 (Fig. 6, not shown). The plate 16 is also used to force the material of the upper 1 against a deformation 27 of the mould last 9 thus sealing the upper from the intrusion of the sole elastomer during moulding.
