Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a new (1, 5)-β-glucofuranan derivative useful as a material, etc., for functional materials.

CONSTITUTION: This compound of formula I or II [Piv is pivaloyl; Bn is benzyl; (n) is 2-50], e.g. 2-O-pivaloyl-3, 6-di-O-benzyl-(1-5)-β-D-glucofuranan. Furthermore, the method for producing the compound of formula I or II is to carry out the ring opening polymerization of, e.g. 1, 4-anhydro-3, 6-di-O-benzyl-2-O-pivaloyl-β-D- glucopyranoside of formula III (R2 is pivaloyl; R6 is benzyl) in the presence of a Lewis acid catalyst in a solvent except nitrobenzene at ≤-20°C temperature.
