Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To use 2-amino-1-methoxypropane to effectively neutralize an acid component in a petroleum refining apparatus at around the dew point of water.
SOLUTION: An effective amt. of 2-amino-1-methoxypropane is added to a distillation unit to neutralize an acid component in a water-base condensate formed during the distillation of petroleum in the unit. Generally, this neutralizing amine is added to an overhead steam line in a distillation column included in the unit. The amine may be added to petroleum before petroleum passes through the distillation column. The amine is added in an amt. enough to increase the pH of the condensate in the unit to about 5.0 or higher, pref. about 6.0 or higher.
