To obtain the subject compound useful for the treatment of immune or autoimmune diseases, cancer, recurrent stricture, rejection in transplantation, dermatic diseases and allergy.

The objective 2-cyano-3-mercaptocrotonamide is expressed by formula I (R1 is H, a 1-17C alkyl, etc.; R2 is H, a 1-4C alkyl, etc.; R3 is H, F, C1, Br, etc.), e.g. 2-cyano-3-mercapto-N-(4-trifluoromethylphenyl)crotonamide. The compound of formula I can be produced by reacting a cyanoacetamide of formula II with a dithiocarboxylic acid of formula III (R7 is a 1-6C alkyl) in the presence of a basic compound (e.g. an alkali metal hydride) in a solvent such as acetonitrile.
