Abstract:

NEW MATERIAL:A 2-substituted imidazole compound of formula I (R is cyclohexyl, phenyl or pyridyl) or an acid addition selt thereof.

EXAMPLE: 2-[2-(2-Pyridyl)-2-phenylethyl] imidazole dihydrochloride.

USE: Useful as an oral drug for diabetes having hypoglycemic action suitably in a dose of usually 100W750mg/kg for a man.

PROCESS: An imino ether of formula II (R' is lower alkyl) is reacted with diethyl aminoacetoacetal at room temperature to under heating at about 120°C, and hydrochloric acid or hydrobromic acid is added to make the reaction mixture strongly acidic. The reaction mixture is then heated at 100°C for 30min to 1hr to give the compound of formula I.
