Abstract:

PURPOSE: To raise the efficiency of a method for producing phenol, acetone and α-methylstyrene according to a cumene method described in United States Patent No. 5,254,751 and improve the method so as to extend the tolerance of the raw material composition and provide a reduction in equipment cost.
CONSTITUTION: The cleavage of dicumyl peroxide in several reactors of a shell and tube design and the acid-catalyzed cleavage of a technical cumyl hydroperoxide in the recycle under the same elevated pressure are controlled by using two calorimeters 3 and 12 and even the absolute temperature difference ΔT between the two calorimaters 3 and 12 is specifically controlled.
