Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composition, a method and a device for rapidly converting silk fibroin solution into silk fibroin gel.SOLUTION: Silk fibroin gel produced by applying electric field to solubilized silk fibroin solution is reversibly converted into a liquid form by applying reverse voltage, or converted further into a β-sheet structure by applying a shear force or other treatment. Electrogelated silk converted by the process above exists as a piezoelectric silk material comprising a mixture of silk I conformation and silk fibroin protein having a silk β- sheet structure, and a silk electrogelation process is useful in various applications such as tissue engineering, medical device or implant, drug delivery, or technique related to soft robotics.
