Abstract:

To control pain without administration of a narcotic or with administration of its less amount and to help an outpatient conduct self-control of pain.

A general method for controlling pain in a subject includes a step for administering an effective amount of ketamine for alleviating pain to a subject suffering from the pain through a transmucosal route such as a transdermal, transmucosal and oral route. In a particular example, a patient suffering from intractable pain in the bladder is controlled of intense pain by taking about 16 mg to about 32 mg of ketamine per unit dose through the transmucosal (transnasal) route.
