To provide a method for detecting a material for activating fatty acid-β-oxidation system of a peroxisome by which the activity of the fatty acid-β-oxidation system of the peroxisome is improved; and to provide a highly safe agent for activating the fatty acid-β-oxidation system of the peroxisome.
The agent for activating the fatty acid-β-oxidation system of the peroxisome contains flavonoids represented by formula (I) (wherein, R1 is a hydroxy group or a lower alkoxy group; R2 is a hydrogen atom, a hydroxy group or a lower alkoxy group; R3 is a hydroxy group, a lower alkoxy group or a sugar residue; R4 is a hydrogen atom or a hydroxy group; and R' and R" are each a hydrogen atom, a hydroxy group or a lower alkoxy group) as an active ingredient. The method for detecting the material for activating the fatty acid-β-oxidation system of the peroxisome comprises culturing a dermal fibroblast having reduced β-oxidation activities of a very long chain fatty acid and derived from human beings with a test reagent and a very long chain fatty acid having a labeled terminal, added thereto, and measuring the amount of the label in an aqueous metabolite after the culture.
